Orange Chiffon Cake

Do you stop and smell the roses?  I mean, do you take time for the things in life that really are most important to you.  I have fond memories of my grandmother who seemed to know what was really important, especially to a grandson.  I loved orange chiffon cake and she catered to my craving by making one when I was going to her house.  I might add that it was very often.  I was 30 when she died and I still miss her and the Orange Chiffon Cake.  No one could replace her or duplicate the cake. My poor wife has made a multitude of Orange Chiffon Cakes to try to duplicate it to not avail.  I know I romanticize the memory of Mamaw’s cake so it is impossible for any cake to be as good without her being present when it is eaten.

Mamaw had a way of making each grandchild, 14 of us, feel as though we were her favorite.  (For any of my cousins who may be reading this, I know I really was her favorite.)  With the passing of time I have come to appreciate my grandmother more.  I have come to see that she seemed to know what was important in life.  She always placed a priority on the Lord and family and faithfully participated in her congregational gatherings. How about you?  How are you spending you life?  What are your priorities?  Is your focus on the things that really matter forever?  Only God’s Kingdom and the people in it last forever, so we need to love and serve the ones whom God has placed in our lives.

Do you suppose someone will miss you and something you added to their life, like I miss my Mamaw and her Orange Chiffon Cake?  May all your memories be sweet!
